In The News: Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon Resigns

I'm debating whether Mayor Dixon should be added to the idiot roll this week...until I decide, we'll file this under In The News.  (I totally had to use this picture...Wire fans know why!!)

In accordance with a plea agreement reached with Maryland State Prosecutors, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon announced her resignation at a press conference yesterday.  The Grio is reporting that a visibly emotional Dixon "acknowledged that she made poor choices and that she 'disappointed' herself and her constituents."

Dixon offered no explanation or apologies during the press conference which effectively ended her three year tenure as mayor.  Dixon's last official day as Mayor will come on February 4, 2010, the same day as her sentencing.  Dixon is charged with perjury for failing to disclose gifts (including cash, travel and clothing)  she received while in offices. While Dixon continues to deny the basis of these charges, she accepted the entered an Alford plea to avoid further embarrassment.
