SOCIAL ANGST is more than just a blog, it is an invitation to aid in the building of wealth through the shared task of information distribution and discussion. It is a call to engage – engage in society, engage with your peers, engage in your political system, engage in spreading the wealth that is information, and engage in multiplying that wealth through discussion – so that collectively we may become more socially aware, more socially responsible, more socially vocal and ultimately more socially valuable.

President Obama proposes aid to middle class families. (theexaminer.com)

President Obama announced a new economic initiatives to help struggling middle class families.  Obama's plans include almost doubling child care tax credits for families earning less than $85,000 annually, a $1.6 billion dollar increase for federally funded childcare, and capping student loan repayments at 10%.

In the face of a growing federal deficit, President Obama will announce plans to freeze federal spending through 2013.  His budget blueprints, which will be formally filed next week, are expected contain "hard freezes" on discretionary spending in an effort to mimic the "fiscal discipline" American families "impose on themselves every day."

Republican Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma admitted that he believes there are benefits to racial profiling as he spoke at the Fort Hood hearings last Thursday, January 21, 2010.  Using inflammatory language that he described as "politically incorrect" Inhofe stated, "But when you hear that not all Middle Easterners or Muslims between the age of 20 and 35 are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims or Middle Easterners between the age of 20 and 35, that's by and large true."

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have made a personal donation in the amount of $15,000 to the Clinton-Bush Haiti fund.  According to White House spokesperson Josh Earnest, the first couple was inspired by the generosity of the American people who have given millions of dollars in relief, even during these trying financial times.

Jordan Miles, an unarmed Black teen was beaten by three White undercover police officers as he walked to his grandmothers house in Pittsburgh on January 12, 2010.   His mother suspects that Jordan was a victim of racial profiling.  Jordan, a viola playing member of Pittsburgh's Creative and Performing Arts High School's orchestra, was photographed bruised and swollen after the incident.  CNN reports that the cops have been removed from plainclothes duty and are back in uniform while the incident is being investigated.
